About Wimbledon Common
Wimbledon Common is located in South West London and is about 1,140 acres of land. The Common is a popular place for sport and there are many different sports that take place there.
The Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields is a sports facility that covers about 48 acres that can be used for football, rugby or athletics. There are 10 full-sized football pitches available for use. Rugby pitches are also available and they are also used by rugby league and rugby union teams, as well as serving as the home ground for London Cornish. A cricket pitch can also be laid out during the summer.
The Common also features an 18-hole golf course that covers two clubs – London Scottish Golf Club and Wimbledon Common Golf Club.
Horse riding, running and walking are also very popular sports in the Common. There are 16-miles of horse riding courses that are available for the public’s use, as well as use by certain clubs. There are running and walking paths that are used frequently. There are also guided walks available.
There are designated cycling routes in Wimbledon Common that can be used for mountain biking or for a leisurely ride. Copies of the cycling routes can be found at Wimbledon Commons or The Ranger’s Office.
