Sport of the Month London Greenwich Park
About Greenwich Park
Greenwich Park is the oldest enclosed Royal Park and covers 183 acres. It is located in South East London on the south bank of the River Thames.
Greenwich Park will host the Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon events in the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.
Sports in Greenwich Park
Cycling is allowed on the roads and designated paths. The paths and grass areas in the park are used for running and walking.
The Ranger’s Field is used for rugby and in the summer, cricket. The Field has enough space for two rugby pitches and one cricket pitch. For information about pitch hire times and prices, go to the Greenwich Park page on the Royal Parks website.
The Greenwich Park Tennis Centre has six tennis courts that are currently available for hire from April to September, though it is possible that in the next year the courts could be available all year round. All the courts are hard courts. Tennis coaching is available for children as well as for adults. Te Tennis Centre also features tennis tournaments and local tennis leagues.
Football and Frisbee can be played informally throughout the park.
For more information, such as opening and closing times as well as hire prices, go to the Royal Parks’ Greenwich Park website.
